Modern Photo - Tower 131
Facing due west along the former
Texas & Pacific Railroad in Terrell, an abandoned interlocker
cabinet is all that remains of Interlocker 131, the crossing of
the T&P and the Texas Midland (TM). The TM crossed here, continuing
north to Paris, TX and south to Ennis. Behind the cabinet and
to the right was the site of the Terrell Union Depot (photo below).
A tower on the corner of the depot may have served train control
purposes before the cabin interlocker was installed. The Union
Depot served passengers for both railroads. In the distance, the
T&P freight depot still stands, restored for civic purposes.
The TM freight depot also remains standing to the south, in use
by a local oil company for storage. The Union Depot was demolished
sometime in the 50's. Text and photo by Jim King.
Historic Photos - Tower 131

Terrell Union Depot was opened in 1901 and demolished sometime
in the 1950's. In the lower left corner of this photo, the diamond
crossing of the T&P (almost out of the photo) and the Texas
Midland (tracking left to right in photo) can be seen.

Another image of Terrell Union Depot from an old postcard. Train
is on the T&P main headed toward Dallas.
